Empowering. Optimistic. Meticulous.

A Thriving Legacy

With so many companies offering safaris throughout Eastern and Southern Africa, we know it can be overwhelming to select the right one for you. Wild Luxury is a company dedicated to sharing the Africa we know and love with you, with your comfort, happiness, and well-being top of mind. We are equally committed to doing so in the most respectful and uplifting manner for the people and places that host us as guests.

Social Impact & Purpose

At Wild Luxury, our purpose is rooted in uplifting the communities we touch. We believe that the most sustainable way to protect the world’s wild places is by prioritizing the people who live there. When local communities thrive, they are naturally incentivized to protect the flora and fauna that sustain their livelihoods and traditions.

Our Commitment:

  • Partnering exclusively with properties and lodges that provide opportunities for local staff to grow into leadership and management roles.
  • Supporting businesses that prioritize fair wages, education, and professional development for their teams.
  • Educating our guests on the cultural and ecological significance of the destinations they visit, ensuring a respectful and enriching experience for all. We believe that by connecting travelers with the stories and aspirations of the people who live in the wild places they explore, we can create a ripple effect of understanding, appreciation, and support. This approach uplifts communities and builds a lasting foundation for conservation that is driven by local stewardship.

A Legacy of Adventure

My family’s safari heritage

My family’s legacy in East Africa is one of adventure, innovation, and a deep connection to the wild, spanning generations. From pioneering hunting expeditions to shaping luxury safaris, our journey reflects a shared passion for Africa’s untamed beauty.

Charles Cottar: The Pioneer

Charles Cottar, inspired by Theodore Roosevelt’s African safaris, became a big-game hunting pioneer in East Africa. Surviving three leopard maulings, he continued to explore the bush, leaving a legacy of courage. His sons carried on the family’s adventurous spirit, hosting royals and becoming integral to the region’s hunting history.

Thelma Cottar: The Elegant Hostess

My great-grandmother Thelma Cottar was a gracious hostess in colonial East Africa, known for her beauty and warmth. She played a key role in social gatherings and pioneered photographic safaris, inspiring new ways to experience the African landscape.

David Stuart: The Healer

David Stuart, my grandfather, shifted the family’s focus from safaris to medicine, making significant contributions, including performing East Africa’s first hip replacement. His compassion extended beyond the savanna, notably when he was the first responder to Richard Leakey’s plane crash.

Andrew Stuart: The Innovator

My father, Andrew Stuart, revolutionized the safari industry by inventing the “mobile safari tent,” blending luxury with adventure. His vision led to the creation of upscale safari camps under the Bushtops brand in the Masai Mara and Serengeti.

Robin Stuart: The Photographer

I have continued my family’s legacy with my own passion for photography, specializing in astrophotography. My work has earned international recognition, including awards from Africa Geographic and the Royal Observatory’s Astronomy Photographer of the Year contest.

Special thanks to Jeanette Loring for preserving our family’s history, providing invaluable insights for this snapshot.
